Legal, in plain words
Privacy & Terms
What Trufa collects, what it never does with it, and the short version of the house rules. Every line says something the code does.
201 bars on the board, every one checked before it published. What we keep about you fits in nine sections.
The short version
- We keep
- your email, your name, and what you save, rate, confirm and send.
- We never
- sell it, show a bar your saves, or email you unasked.
- Four cookies
- one to keep you signed in, one so a ballot vote sticks, two that are Google Analytics’ own.
- read through the official tools; the facts and a link, and the words of a menu photo, never the photo.
- Every deal
- checked before it publishes, and it says by whom.
- Twenty-one
- or older; how much, and how you get home, is yours to decide.
- Your call
- see and change everything on your account page, or delete it all at once.
- The chalkboard
- on the night is the final word. The round is on you.
Privacy policy

Who we are
Trufa is run from New York, and its data lives on servers in the United States. This policy covers the site and the emails and pings it sends. Anything you want to ask or change goes through the contact page, and a person answers.
What we collect
Your email, your name, the bars you save or mark as been, the deals you confirm, the bars you rate, the votes you create, the tips and messages you send, and a push subscription if you book the 4 PM ping. If you sign in with Google, Google hands us your name and email and nothing else. If you allow location, your position sorts the board by distance inside your browser; it is never sent to us or kept past the tab. Ballot voters give a first name only, no account, no tracking profile.
What we use it for
To run your account, keep your saves, count your ratings and votes, answer your messages, and send the mail and pings you turned on. We don’t build profiles, we don’t advertise, and we don’t use what you give us for anything you wouldn’t expect from a list of happy hours.
What we don’t do
We don’t sell your data, share your saved bars with venues, or email you about anything you didn’t ask for. We hand it to nobody except the services below that run the site, and to the authorities only when the law requires it. Google ratings shown on Trufa come from Google and are attributed to Google.
Who runs the site
A few services hold or move your data on our behalf, each seeing only what its job needs: Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in, Vercel hosts the site and counts visits without cookies, Google Analytics counts them too and sets the cookies named below, Resend delivers our email, Google handles sign-in when you choose it, and your browser’s own push service delivers the ping. Instagram never receives anything about you; we only read from it.
Cookies
One session cookie to keep you signed in, one anonymous device key so ballot votes stick, one that lasts two minutes after you make an account so we can count it, naming how you signed up and never you, and Google Analytics’ two cookies, which tell it that two visits came from the same browser and go to Google with the page you were on and what you did there, like a save or a share. No ad cookies, and nothing of ours follows you to other sites.
Email and pings
Every email is one you asked for: the mail that confirms your account or resets your password, the result of a vote you started, and the spot alert and weekly digest only if you switch them on. Every alert and digest carries an unsubscribe link, and the switches on your account page do the same. The 4 PM ping arrives only if you book it, and your browser can cancel it any time.
Instagram
Some deals are read from a bar’s own public Instagram posts and profile, through Instagram’s official tools, never by scraping. We store the facts a post or profile states (days, hours, prices), a link to the post or the profile, and when we read it. When a menu is in the photo, we read the photo once to write down its words, and keep the words, never the picture. We never copy or re-host the photos or videos. If a post comes down, our link to it stops working too; ask via the contact page and we’ll remove anything on request.
Your data, your call
Everything we keep about you is on your account page, where you can change it. Delete account removes your profile, saves, ratings, votes and subscriptions at once; a tip that became a verified deal stays on the board with your name taken off it. We keep the rest only while your account exists. Trufa is for people of legal drinking age, and we don’t knowingly keep anything about anyone under 21; tell us and it goes. When this policy changes, the date above changes with it.

The service
Trufa lists happy hours and weekly specials in Manhattan below 14th Street, each one checked before it publishes, and each one says by whom. Using the site means agreeing to these terms and the privacy policy beside them. Bars change their minds without telling us; the chalkboard on the night is the final word on what’s poured and what it costs.
Who it’s for
Trufa is about drinking, so it’s for people of legal drinking age, which is 21 in New York. A deal here is never a reason to drink more than you would have; how much, and how you get home, is yours to decide.
Your account
You only need one to save bars, rate them and start votes. Keep your sign-in to yourself; what happens under it counts as you. One rating per person per bar, editable any time. Accounts used to game the board or spam the queue get closed.
What you send us
Your ratings, tips, votes and messages stay yours. Sending them lets Trufa show them on the board, credited by first name where names show, and use them to check and rank deals. Keep them honest, about the bar, and yours to give; anything else comes down.
The board
Deals are information, not offers Trufa makes, and the site is offered as it is, with no promise that it’s complete, current or always up. The order of any list is the rule printed on it. As far as New York law allows, Trufa isn’t responsible for what a bar charges, serves or does, or for how a night goes. If something here costs you a bad evening, we’d genuinely like to know, but the round is on you.
Using the board
Read it, share it, link to it. Don’t copy it wholesale, scrape it, resell it, or use bots to move a rating or flood the queue. Automated reading of the board is welcome only as far as our robots.txt allows it, and only with a user agent that says who’s asking. The deals are facts and belong to the bars that pour them; the board we assemble around them (the checks, the ledger of who confirmed what and when, the writing) is Trufa’s, and copying or republishing a substantial part of it isn’t allowed.
House rules
These terms follow New York law, and a dispute that can’t be settled over a drink goes to a court in New York County. When they change, the date above changes with it, and using Trufa after that means the new version applies. Questions go through the contact page.
